    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • - I was sat within the Energy, Environment, and Infrastructure team, therefore the tasks I encountered on a daily basis were within this remit. - I was involved in a variety of Trainee Solicitor tasks, gaining insight into the role. These included: drafting documents, editing DD reports, etc. - I interacted with various members of the team on a daily basis, from Trainees, Associates, and Partners.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • - I have developed skills such as: attention to detail, perseverance, communication, etc. - I have become accustomed to adapting my working style when required i.e. having to drop a task to pick up a more urgent matter. This is something that does not come naturally to me as a perfectionist.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • - It has been a great opportunity to learn about all the different seats which you can train in within the Trainee role and how the tasks within each of these seats might differ. - Working within BCLP has helped develop my understanding of how the business operates in attracting and maintaining its talent.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • - I felt comfortable communicating with people across the firm. - I felt valued as part of the team when involved in meetings etc. despite being such a low-level member of the team. - I have enjoyed the social events the firm has held, and have found that everyone at BCLP is open to communicate and tell you about their role. It has not been difficult gaining an insight from people at these informal events.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • - I have enjoyed working within my team and have really felt valued - the culture of the team and BCLP firm-wide feels inclusive and welcoming. - The work I have been involved in has been interesting in that it has provided insight into areas I had yet to experience. I would have liked to have received more variety in work, rather than completing more work on certain tasks (although this was also on me to ask for).

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BCLP
  • - If you prep well (research, gaining insight, etc) for the original application, you will already be in a good position going forward. Advance this research before the interview and assessment centre. - Make sure you have solid answers to the standard 'why law,' 'why BCLP,' questions - this are easy questions to prepare. - Try to gain as much insight into the firm before applying and then attending the Vac Scheme - reach out to people.
