    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was responsible for multiple studies within the company. I had to ensure the processing, tracking, and filing of study documents, and management of the Trial Master File within these clinical projects were being done in the correct manner. I also had to administratively support clinical study staff as required and support project managers within the assigned clinical studies.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt to use vTMF and CTMS applications at a proficient level which will make it easier for me to work on clinical studies in the future. I have also become more proficient in excel which has multipurpose use with lots of jobs. I feel much more comfortable and confident conducting myself in a professional manner - whether that is in in person meetings or over email.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was responsible for the TMF filing of multiple studies - if these were missing or filed incorrectly this could lead in an audit failure and have serious implications on the study. I was also trusted to directly contact hospital sites and investigators to obtain relevant documentation and arrange collection/delivery or expensive medical equipment.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There is a large support network within J&J. I worked directly under my line manager who I would be able to contact at any time if I had any difficulties. The wider team within the office were very helpful too as I could rely on anyone for assistance if became stuck. There is also a hub of slides and manuals if you can refer to if needed.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement a lot. It is very easy to obtain a relaxed work-life balance as you can work flexi hours of your choice. The company comes with many benefits too such as an on-site gym and staff shop. Even-though it is a very relaxed environment you are still able to get a lot of work done which feels extra meaningful as I am contributing to medical studies and helping the lives of others.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Johnson & Johnson
  • Research the company before going into the interview - especially the company's credo and core values. While you are in - make the most of being in the office environment, talk and network to others to see what they do and try to connect with different departments as you never know you this could be an option for you in the future.
