  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Joining meetings with line manager and mentor to gain an understanding on the role. Completing data review tasks from assigned clinical trials. Meeting different colleagues from different departments through coffee connect and networking events. Reading through and completing the integrated review plan designed for each clinical trial.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Once trained in completing certain data review tasks I was given independence to complete data review on my own set of patients from the clinical trial. I also presented to a large audience of people to explain how my placement was going and was given the opportunity to present at a global data management meeting. Joined the Bridge to Employment scheme as a mentor and helped lead sessions for my pod of students to guide them through cv writing and improving presentation skills.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had weekly meetings with my line supervisor to provide me with support for any general queries and concerns I faced. Several calls a week with my supervisor for more role specific questions and guidance when completing particular tasks. Other placement students and their managers also provided support for day to day office life and soft skill developments.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Johnson and Johnson has a strong focus on team work and creating a strong and inviting company culture. Networking and connecting with any member of the teams was easy and all colleagues were willing and keen to speak to placement students, allowing networking skills to develop alongside gaining the opportunity to learn about other roles and departments within the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placement provided me with several opportunities to develop my scientific and data managing skills, alongside soft skills necessary for the office culture required for a job once I graduate from university. The opportunity to network with colleagues and other placement students made the placement even more enjoyable as connecting with a range of people from different teams is important in creating an effective working environment.

  • Take all opportunities that are offered and do not be afraid to ask and create your own opportunities as everyone is keen to allow your skills to develop. Connect with other members of the team and other placement students to create an inviting work environment that motivates you. Embrace change as this will allow your growth mindset to develop Don’t be afraid to speak up and make mistakes - the best learning comes from learning from previous mistakes Ask for help to continue growing and developing both individually and as part of a team
