    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The day to day in this role can vary widely depending on what is needed for the study at the time but some examples of activities I complete regularly include: - Working with medical and legal to update informed consent forms. - Analysing recruitment data and using it to make informed decisions about what is best for the study. - Working with local teams to solve any issues sites may have and to boost recruitment.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Because of how varied this role is and how supportive my team has been I have been able to develop many skills, but I have especially developed my ability to research and discover information that I can then use to solve issues and improve the study.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes absolutely! I was given the reins to important and interesting tasks that pushed and developed me, and although it was tough I never felt abandoned, I always had someone in the team who I could reach out to for support.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had a lot of support. I had my line managers support who was a previous placement student so she understood very well what I needed and how to help. GSK placement students also get a buddy who acts as pastoral support. On top of that you have access to a mentor and if after all of that you still need support and guidance you always have access to your team members who are happy to help.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I really enjoyed the atmosphere and culture at GSK. The best way to describe it would be friendly, helpful and driven. You can speak to just about anyone about just about anything and they will drop what they are doing to help. On top of that everyone is clearly very driven to succeed on the trials and get drug to patient, it's a very inspiring place to work.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to GSK
  • Be genuine throughout the interview process. They are not expecting you to be an expert or have any clinical trial experience at all. They are looking for someone with potential, drive and an excitement to make a difference so let that show in application and interview.
