  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Contracting (Master Service Agreements, Task Orders, Stand-alone Agreements), negotiating the best deals with suppliers, Request for Informations (RFIs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs)

  • Presentation, negotiation. I have also grown in confidence and developed my ability to work in a team with people of all ages and also work with people across various functions.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility from early on with regard to the contracts I was working on. I communicated with suppliers directly and my contracts were often not checked by another GSK employee before sign off.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager was incredible; he gave me so much support and really did everything he could to ensure that I gained the most out of my placement. My whole team were always more than happy to grab a coffee or pick up a call if I had any issues or needed advice/guidance. The early talent team was also great at supporting the placement students throughout the year.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The average age of employees is relatively old, so the culture is not necessarily ‘exciting’. However, everyone is very friendly and always happy to help or answer any questions.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I had a great year and learnt so many valuable skills. I also built a great relationship with my manager, who I hope to stay in touch with going forward However, I will not pursue a career in procurement nor at GSK.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to GSK
  • Get as involved as possible with all the IP Unite events, and try to make friends with the other placement students. Do research into the role to try and understand what work you will be doing on a day-to-day basis. Before the assessment centre, make sure to familiarise yourself with GSKs values and what they look for in employees.
