Overview
Due to ACCESS being an extensive two year programme, it involves 12 separate components giving you the opportunity to interact with the firm frequently across the two years. Some examples of the components included are two separate placements (a 4-day placement directly with the firm and a 5-day placement SMBP with a range of companies), networking, tutoring and coaching.
Skills
Across the program, I've gained a number of new skills such as debating and pitching from the sessions I took part in. Furthermore, I've had the opportunity to develop existing skills like networking, communication and teamwork within a legal setting. I strongly believe that the skills I've gained will help me with my first year scheme applications, attending assessment centre days and preparing for interviews,
Business Insight
Through completing the ACCESS scheme, I will have the opportunity to apply for ACCESS SPARK (Clifford Chance first year scheme for ACCESS students) in my first year at university which could potentially lead to me securing a training contract offer.
Culture
The firms culture appeared to be friendly and had a sense of community which was reflected through the trainees, partners and recruitment team that I met. I also had the opportunity to learn about the company's diversity initiatives and dedication to increasing social mobility.
Your Impressions
Overall it was an enjoyable experience which exceeded my expectations.
Yes
The application is CV blind so it's important to spend time time on the personal statement element of the online application and explain why you believe you are the right fit for the firm. There is also the Watson Glaser test which needs to be completed once your online application has been submitted. My advice for this test is to make sure you practice a few times before taking the real thing.
