Overview
I attend a daily huddle with my team at 9am. We use PerformPlus to share what tasks we have to complete that day. I've been on a pensions engagement since October 2021 that involves extensive file trawls so once our huddle is finished I begin my file trawl work for the day. I am also responsible for our 'huddle host rota' so I keep that up to date on a weekly basis.
Skills
On my engagement I have only had the experience of file trawling which I don't find particularly challenging. Despite being on a pension engagement, I don't feel that I actually learnt any practical skills to do with pensions. I have developed my communication and time management skills through networking, huddles and balancing my daily tasks. I also took part in the PwC Digital Academy where I learnt new skills in Alteryx and PowerBI.
Responsibilities
My day-to-day work didn't require me to have much responsibility other than hitting my daily targets. I am however responsible for our 'huddle host rota' which I keep up to date on a weekly basis.
Support & Guidance
Before starting our engagement we received great training and guidance. Throughout my placement my career coach has been on hand with guidance and support for anything I may need. I was also assigned a 'BP Champion' who was also a great, more informal, contact to have.
Culture
As a whole, the culture at the firm is brilliant. It is very in line with my own personal values and made me feel very comfortable there. Its a very inclusive firm and the atmosphere in the office is always friendly and collaborative. The company culture was one of the things that drew me to the firm.
Your Impressions
As a whole, I've enjoyed my placement. I was a great opportunity for me get a feel of the working world and to get experience prior to finishing my degree. I haven't found my engagement work particularly stimulating, therefore if I was to return to the firm as a graduate I would definitely like to move to different engagement because I feel that my skills/prior experience could be better used elsewhere.
Yes
Make sure you research that placement you are applying for and all the potential roles you could be placed in. Be very transparent about your degree/previous experience/what specific role you would like to placed into so that you can be put in the most appropriate position for you.
