    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involved learning a new format of coding in order to convert some files into this new format. It was self contained so I held all the responsibility for its progress and execution. There was also opportunity to shadow colleagues in order to learn more about the department and business as a whole.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I learnt an incredible amount of new skills. I never imagined I would be learning so much in ten weeks. My time-management and proactive working mindset were pushed, while team work and communication was improved by being in an office environment, and making use of being able to learn from senior colleagues. I learnt an entirely new coding format and implemented it. If I had more words I could fill this section many times over.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. I had a fairly independent project so I had sole responsibility for the progression and development of it over the ten weeks with the company. I learnt to be proactive and strict with setting personal goals and deadlines in order to meet higher level departmental targets set for me.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 4/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • From the minute I arrived, the message reiterated to me was ‘If you need help, ask anybody’. This reassured me and encouraged me to speak out and be inquisitive. I would not have learnt as much as I did in such a short time without the encouragement of colleagues to ask questions and seek out help. No matter how simple the question seems.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I had a discussion with a colleague regarding how important company culture was to an employee. I can firmly say, the company culture and general atmosphere was the right fit for me. I felt welcomed and encouraged to succeed, that is why I hope to return to the company after my studies are complete.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed working for the ten weeks I was there. The people I met and responsibility I was given definitely built on this. Even beyond work, there are so many additional opportunities to get involved with, the company and department were brilliant to work within.
