  • Working in a research and development laboratory with a team of like minded individuals on electronics.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Developed independence and competence to work independently when required. Understanding how to delegate tasks when I needed help on specific tasks and the importance of seeking advice to carry on faster. Learned a lot of job specific skills, such as business composition and acknowledgement for the importance of products and their intended use cases.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Due to the covid-19 pandemic, I did work a lot on my own and was very transparent with my superiors allowing them to not necessarily need to monitor me very closely. This trust formed between us allowed us to have peace of mind and to better focus on our own work. Though I would seek guidance when required which was very important.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • From the very beginning I found it very easy to voice my concerns to my team, they were welcoming and open to suggestions, as was I when I required help. My team were very friendly and I think that made me a lot more comfortable from the get-go. I would often discuss future plans regarding work, to gauge a better view from another member of the team.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • A very pleasant and focused work ethic shared by the vast majority of individuals. I was treated very well from the beginning of my placement to the very end by every department I interacted with. Regardless of age, ethnicity and religion, everyone treated each other with respect.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My experience was very positive and I honestly do look forward to being back at work. This is mainly due to the characters and personalities of the individuals I worked with. We got along very well together and I made a lot of very good friends whom I could speak openly with about any concerns I had, whether it be work or what we did on the weekend.

  • Be ready to take on the application process, it will take a lot of time but if done right it will be worth the time invested in it.
