Overview
There are usually a few internal meetings with various engineering team leads/ the project control team. Then meetings with our client is usual once every week to go over the project's development. Finally there is time to work on your own work helping the team, e.g. with excel/ powerpoint.
Skills
I have learnt how to use Primavera P6, developed my Excel skills and have experienced working with a client of a different nationality.
Responsibilities
No, I had very limited responsibility during my placement.
Support & Guidance
I received a good initiation into the company from my manager and had a number of sessions introducing me to different business areas. I also had support when I had questions about the industry/ company. However, I didn't receive much work from my manager on the placement.
Culture
As most of the placement was via Zoom, this is difficult to say, although I personally felt there were some really great, friendly and enthusiastic people working at the company. It was a shame that not all individuals were as professional or conscious of having a female placement student in the team.
Your Impressions
I didn't particularly enjoy the placement, I had no responsibility and only felt challenged a handful of times during the 9 weeks I spent at the company. There was no formal training or project that I was responsible for and there just wasn't enough work for me to do.
No
If you are looking to be challenged on your internship and be given some real responsibility, this probably isn't the placement for you. However, if you are just looking to learn more about the defence industry then this is a good initiation.
