    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight scheme took place over 5 days between 9am and 12:30pm. Daily tasks included taking part in Zoom meetings, which involved getting to know all about the bank's purpose and its three pillars in depth, introducing ourselves to the people-led networks within the bank and the work that they do, meeting colleagues and graduates across the bank and getting an insight into the work that they do and the teams that they work in. Lots of teamwork breakout rooms were involved in our day to day work, where we met lots of fellow students on the program and worked towards completing tasks assigned to us.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The insight week helped me develop my personal networking and socialising skills. Having had many conversations with people within the D&A team, I have gained lots of insight into what it means to work within this part of the industry. By getting introduced to the Critical People Capabilities of the bank and their purpose, I feel much more well equipped to take on the assessment centre coming up. The program also helped me work on my virtual working etiquette and skills.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We had a chance to network with loads of people within the D&A who all hold different roles and responsibilities, which all came together nicely into helping me get a good overall picture of the team and the work that they do within the bank. An in-depth presentation was given to us about all the roles and the different programs available after this insight week, which was helpful in understanding what is coming up.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company's culture mostly showed through Day 4, when we were introduced to all the employee-led networks. The atmosphere within the bank is very encouraging towards colleagues' personal development, as there are so many opportunities and resources to help all advance. We were introduced to volunteering opportunities, as well as all the social events that are offered through these networks. Alongside one's day job, there is so much to get involved with, which helps the bank with its work towards diversity.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I feel like I gained a lot out of this week. The program was important in me understanding and getting a real flavour of what working at the bank would mean, specifically within the D&A team. Speaking to all the friendly people from the employee-led networks really helped build an enjoyable atmosphere and give an insight to how much the bank values their culture. One thing I would have enjoyed more is some type of training or more insight look into the work that is specifically done within Data & Analytics.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
  • Preparation is key into being ready for the interview process and the assessment centre. Take a deep-dive into the purpose and values of the bank, and make sure these align with your own. Come up with examples of how these things apply to your own personal life and make sure you are comfortable with talking about them. One thing I would tell anyone applying is not to fear the assessors. Everyone is so lovely and the culture is completely based on learning, which means that you are wanted to succeed, which is quite nice to know. To prepare for the first day of the insight, I would suggest coming up with some questions that you are looking to get answered and make the most of all the people you speak to.
