    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement catered extremely well for the interests of those involved on the insight programme. I was very pleased with the rigorous nature of the week's programme which included overviews and question and answer sessions on most of the divisions as well as numerous opportunities to speak with employees further during networking events, panels and lunches. There was also a terrific networking dinner on the penultimate evening to provide a more relaxed and intimate setting to get to know your fellow colleagues as well as ask any further questions to employees who were always more than happy to openly discuss their role at Morgan Stanley and lives in and out of work.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This clearly differed depending on whom you spoke to but overall most people at Morgan Stanley were genuinely interested in your development and future and open to dispelling any concerns or queries. Events were always led by enthusiastic employees and the team leading the programme made an effort to make you feel a part of Morgan Stanley.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a mentor system in which a Morgan Stanley employee would oversee, advise and work with your group whilst you researched and prepared for presentations. Extremely willing to help and we could email with questions late at night and I would receive a response from my mentor.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Extremely tight schedule, would have been better to have had a few 30 minute breaks over the week but even lunch at times was for scheduled networking events. Also, presentations were often done back to back with very little break in which it became tougher and tougher to maintain your concentration.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There was a heavy emphasis in getting the most out of the placement for one's own sake. Although formal responsibilities were limited to delivering a presentation at the end of the week as well as a few challenges where you could show the product of your work, there was little which amounted to a formal responsibility. However we were all aware that the onus was on us to keep contact with those we had met over the week.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The presentation was a learning curve due to the team work involved and delivering in a professional environment.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Most people were very enthusiastic about their jobs and rated Morgan Stanley highly as a place to work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well managed - tight schedule which was kept to and it was clear from the start what to expect and the firm certainly delivered.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a lot of opportunities to chat to employees either one to one or in small groups in networking events and this input and chance was invaluable. The interactive sessions and chance to see what exactly is involved for instance in M&A where an IBD employee talked through a recent pitchbook was very educative.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am very interested in returning as a full time employee with the firm after going through their internship process. It is clear that the firm puts an emphasis on developing and retaining talent.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Colleagues were eager to get to know each other, even arranging a dinner on the night before the placement begun. Also, lots of us stayed quite late after a networking dinner to continue chatting and socialising with employees and each other.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The canteen was quite reasonably priced, cheaper than another bank I went to.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't have much experience of this.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a strong CSR policy at the firm as well as various groups one could join such as a Women's Network.

    4/5
