The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable placement, was allowed to experience many different products, processes, gained good exposure to the industry, given more than adequate training and assistance and was able to work with a variety of people.
My team really made me feel welcome, and supported me at the start which helped integrate me, and by the end of the placement i was definetely felt like i was contributing to the team, which was shown by the gratitude and thanks my team showed. The additional work they gave me also showed that they were confident in the quality of work i carried out.
My management consistenly provided feedback and support through one to one meetings, and provided me with training sessions to help me learn more about my team,my role, and the products i dealt with.
Very busy, i never had too little work but found at certain times that i was having to manage my time effectively to ensure that everyhting was completed.
Was given a lot of freedom and my role grew to one were i was responsible for certain regions P&L on a daily, monthly and yearly basis with limited support, the increase seniority of the people i dealt with outside my team also highlighted this.
The professional skills i have gained are invaluable, in terms of my degree i have been able to develop my analytical skills, however it will not help greatly with my studies. However looking to move into finance afterwards this will provide me with a massive advantage.
The Company
There was a great balance between professionalism and fun, the office was an enjoyable place to work and the members of my team ensured it never got to serious as to stress people out. The work was of high standard and strict deadlines but never felt like it.
The HR department consistenly provided updates and advice on how we were doing and what was next for us, we were aware of every change each step of the way and were kept in the loop.
There was no formal qualifications offered however the time my team put into me, and the allowance for us to attend in house training sessions was something i saw as an investment.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Working from home
The funance industry currently is cutting back significantly, but we all have the opportunity to aplly for graduate schemes so 50/50 depending on performance and area the jobs are in.
The Culture
Many nights out and social gatherings, everyone was very close.
Cost was expensive (London), but no unaffordable.
Lots of Bars, and Clubs available. Bars must account for 1/2 the buildings in canary wharf!
Lots of volunteering opportunities and also sports teams and other groups were available to join.
