The Role
I did the Spring Insight 2012 at Morgan Stanley, which I found to be a fantastic experience - very well organised and informative.
Everybody was extremely friendly, always happy to stop and talk to us or explain things that we didn't understand.
We were assigned mentors, who were very willing to help and check up on how we were doing.
The timetable was very packed, but that was a good thing because it gives you a feel of what working in an investment bank is really like.
As it was just a one week programme, the amount of responsibility we could take on was very limited - however we did many group projects, which I found very worthwhile and I good way to get to know my colleagues on the programme.
My communication skills and time management skills improved tremendously, as well as my general knowledge of the industry.
The Company
While the people at Morgan Stanley work very hard and take their work seriously, they are still able to enjoy each other's company, which is important when you spend most of your day in the office.
The programme was organised to perfection, with planners for each person, detailing what we would be doing each day, along with extra information (eg. about employees at MS and a glossary or banking jargon).
Even employees of the most senior positions gave up their time to talk to us and tell us about their experiences.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I did the fast-track assessment centre for a summer internship with Morgan Stanley the following year - great process.
The Culture
Everybody got on very well - great team spirit.
It was in Canary Wharf, so local restaurants weren't cheap, but there's plenty of food provided in the Morgan Stanley building itself, so this wasn't a problem.
Nightlife in London is known to be good.
Many opportunities ranging from charity work to sports teams.
