The Role
I really enjoyed being able to rotate through different teams in the department as I got to work with different people and on a wide variety of tasks and projects.
Members of the team made me feel welcome straight away and expressed their appreciation for all my hard work
As I rotated through teams my manager also changed through each rotation. each manager supported me and guided me in different but valuable ways. I also had a mentor within the department who provided great guidance when asked.
One rotation I was mega busy but I enjoyed it; two rotations I was busy but still had extra capacity; fourth rotation I did not have enough tasks and projects to work on and often found myself bored. It really depended on the team and the time of year spent with that team.
Responsibility varied from rotation to rotation but on the whole I was given quite a bit of responsibility.
My placement has developed and furthered critical skills for my career as well as helping me define my dissertation topic for my final year of study.
The Company
Everyone is really friendly and fun; there are often organised events within the department such as sports day, dragon boat racing and secret santa at christmas time.
on the whole it was quite well organised but it was not always known until the last minute who our next manager would be. At one point there was some confusion and I had two managers.
Colleagues were always willing to take time to talk to me and help me with questions I had. I was able to attend HR training sessions which were run within the department. There were also regular excel training sessions I was able to attend.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I would happily work here after university. The thing is that as this if the first year of the placement scheme the company is unsure about any graduate roles.
The Culture
There was only three of us in our department but I understand that there was a good social scene with students from other departments in the company.
Cost of living can vary a fair amount depending which direction you move. Socialising is more expensive than out of London but it was not too expensive.
People from all the companies in the Wharf often go out for drinks, particularly on a Thursday. There is a buzz in the area.
There were often volunteering opportunities in the local area for employees to get involved in.
