The Role
I really enjoyed this placement. The work has been challenging and interesting. I have been pushed to be out of my comfort zone at times but this has really helped me develop and improve.
Everyone in the team was really welcoming. I was always trusted with relatively important tasks as well as being allowed to progress my own projects. I was treated the same as the graduates working there.
We were assigned an analyst "buddy" when we joined. They really helped ease us in. Coming from a background in maths, I felt it would be a struggle in the first month or so having to pick everything up so quickly but everyone has been very helpful with their support and guidance.
Generally the level of work has been good, not too busy not too quiet. During the final 5 months or so of the year I was working in a projects based team where there were times where the workload was a bit less or a bit more than I would like but that was just the nature of the job.
I could not ask for more responsibility. By the end of the placement I have represented my team in presenting to senior management on many occasions. It has been a brilliant experience and I could not have asked for more.
I think the main skill that I will take back to Uni is time management and organization. The amount I have learned this year has been astonishing but although I'm not sure how much will apply to my degree, I'm sure many of the skills I've picked up will help in my career.
The Company
At the start was a bit quiet as my team only had 2 analysts. It grew in size over the year and by the end the atmosphere has been great. A really fun place to work.
I was the first IP in my team so during the training they weren't too sure what to do with me! Once the training was over, the organization of my year has been great. I have rotated amoung the sub teams and gained a broad knowledge of the business area.
We had a training session at the start of the placement. During the course of the year, there were many chances to attend externally run courses in order to learn more about various areas in finance.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
I have been offered a job! So good.
The Culture
Not per se, but we had a handful of arranged socials. We found a group we stayed with for the year so that has been fun.
London is a pricey place to live especially if you get involved socially.
Canary wharf is quite poor but London in general is brilliant
Yes... Lots of chances to take part in spors, for example.
