    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My daily responsibilities included working closely with clients and colleagues to determine their banking needs, including discussing their financial requirements and providing financial advice, when necessary. Carrying out Competitor analysis and providing recommendations to Improving our Buy to Let Proposition in the Bank. Networking with stakeholders, completing online learning modules to understand HSBC's culture and Values.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • 1. Discuss progress and engage in discussion of topics relevant to the business operations 2. Carry out established activities and any additional responsibilities which are mutually agreed upon by the student and placement manager. 3. Raise concerns with the placement manager if the objectives for the internship are not being met or if the supervision being received is inadequate. 4. Network with shareholders in the business to provide commercial solutions to improve Product propositions.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I always felt supported by upper management at HSBC. I knew that if I had a question, or wanted to grab lunch with a manager or partner, that that was always an option. They really try to make you feel comfortable, and HSBC has a great open door policy. On top of that, I had a mentor in my service lines as well which was extremely useful and less intimidating.

  • 1. It was Comfortable 2. It was Inclusive 3. Everyone has shared Goals 4. I had no problems speaking up and sharing my own opinions openly.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would encourage anybody who gets the opportunity to work for or apply to HSBC to do so. What I enjoyed the most was meeting so many new people from a variety of backgrounds even though the placement was virtual! The people I have met and the friends I have made have made my time at HSBC and I would love to come back as a graduate and work at this Bank

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to HSBC
  • I would strongly advise researching HSBC thoroughly and find examples where you have demonstrated HSBC's Core values. Look up on the website what they include and think of examples. Also try and find some exclusive facts about HSBC that may not be easily findable. Try to find something unique you can bring up in the interview to impress them.
