    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role was incredibly varied and stimulating, as I was involved in the completion of documents (e.g. management information, credit papers, prospects, etc.) and in maintaining solid relationships with clients. There were multiple opportunities to engage with staff from different divisions and countries, which gave me an insight into HSBC's international footprint.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I developed multiple skills during the internship, with some being specific to banking and finance, whilst others resulting more generic. The most prominent were definitely my financial literacy and analytical skills, which massively improved due to the exposure to different resources. Other skills that were developed include communication, organisation, time management, emotional intelligence and adaptability.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Since the very beginning, I was given significant responsibility, which made me feel incredibly determined and motivated. I was assigned tasks involving very sensitive data, as well as being provided the opportunity to attend client meetings and calls regarding deals; all duties that made me feel incredibly involved and autonomous.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager, as well as the rest of the team, were incredibly supportive throughout the internship. I did not fear asking for guidance or feedback, as everyone had a great attitude when I asked for help. Everyone's conduct made the entire experience exceptionally enjoyable.

  • 1. Inclusive, welcoming, stimulating, diverse, supportive. 2. Incredibly involved in diversity and inclusion initiatives, provides support to the wider community and ensures that all its staff is catered for.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The internship was a fantastic experience, something I will forever cherish. Since the beginning, I felt incredibly welcome and supported, which definitely contributes to my desire to join the company after graduation. The placement -specific knowledge and skills I acquired are outstanding, which I definitely look forward to apply in the near future.

  • 1. Be yourself and show your uniqueness throughout the application process. 2. Make sure you meet all the deadlines during the application process. 3. Try to convey the best version of yourself during the assessment centre and the virtual interviews.
