    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My project involved building a few spreadsheets with instruction manuals. Every day varied greatly, but I would have a wellbeing check-in with my manager most mornings. I would spend about 40% of my time working on my placement project, 15% networking, 30% on self-development and the remaining 15% on the ERG project.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I developed my knowledge on sustainability and cultural awareness through HSBC University. I developed my excel skills through a workshop, drop-in sessions and LinkedIn learning which all interns get. There was a learning pathway for each week on Degreed to focus on different skills and knowledge e.g. influencing and managing up. I also developed resilience and self-awareness through the workshops.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had an OPM, a grad coach and my placement manager to turn to when I needed support. All colleagues and interns were very open to helping and giving guidance in any context. The intern working group and the graduate programme ran mindfulness sessions and various other ones on stress and how to avoid burnout. Also, I reached out for a work place adjustment which was arranged very quickly.
