    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working within Performance and Governance within Everyday Banking, I was responsible for numerous tasks daily for my team. These included, data analysis, preparing performance reports and presentations. I also worked on a project analysing SMS messaging spend. Alongside my placement there were numerous other tasks with other interns such as a charity challenge and a presentation on closing the gender pay gap.

  • I have developed my excel skills, professional skillset, stakeholder management and how to engage with a broad range of people. I have also developed my presentation and team working skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • All the work I was doing was work that the team required and was to be used in AOP forecasting. I was therefore given roles that had real commercial value. Balancing all the different responsibilities was the most difficult challenge however this reflects how the workplace is so was a good challenge.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There were lots of points of contact if I was ever stuck or unsure but I never felt micro managed. There was always help available and everyone was really open to questions and lending a hand and the more you reached out and asked questions the better the learning experience.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was great. Everyone from managers to grads were more than happy to speak to you answer questions and share their experiences and advice. I felt like a valued member of my team and got to meet a really wide variety of people that taught me lots about HSBC as a business.

  • I really enjoyed the internship and learnt lots during my time at the bank. I feel that the skills I have developed will set me up for whichever career path that I choose in the future and would recommend the programme to any prospective applicant.

  • Do lots of research on the business area that you are applying for and make sure you are aware of HSBC's strategy and values. Be yourself in the application process and if the fit is right I am sure that you will succeed.
