  • Worked across various projects each week, often working on pitchbooks and financial models in the context of debt and capital structure advisory.

  • I vastly improved my financial modelling skills during the course of the internship, whilst also more generally improving my understanding of the how the bank and my team operates within capital markets.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was fortunate to be placed in a relatively small team which had the benefit of more exposure (than other interns in alternative teams within capital markets) and so was able to get very involved in projects during my tenure.

  • Plenty of support was available from both HR and my team during my internship, which is all the more excellent considering my internship was conducted remotely.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • HSBC has a great company culture within capital markets, with the effectiveness of the teams demonstrated through the mandates that HSBC is consistently leading. In addition, it is very welcoming to new starters which I think can be attributed to a balance of providing learning opportunities whilst also cultivating an environment that simultaneously encourages hard work to get the best results. Altogether, there is a sense that everyone is working towards the same goal.
