    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Tuesday and Thursdays I work under the Professionals team following a professional relationship manager. Here I complete some projects for my superiors, shadow client meetings, attend team meetings and broaden my knowledge of the bank and banking in general. Other days of the week I am completing a business and charity project, attending development and guest speaker sessions and broadening my network across the bank.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Only half way through so far but I am definitely finding the development sessions and projects relevant for personal development and growth. I am gaining a lot of knowledge of the sector, learning more about creating trusting relationships and the necessity for such and how to manage time, responsibility and relationships.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Being involved in client meetings gave brilliant exposure but very little responsibility. I feel as though the business project is enjoyable and useful to me but I am not convinced it will be significantly valued by superiors. Some projects I am completing during placement have some levels of responsibility as I am actually making small changes to the business.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Absolutely loads. No one could offer to do any more for me. The manager, my team, my buddy, my early careers manage the other grads have all been amazing and more supportive than I could have dreamed. Equally, every single person I have encountered so far has offered to support my journey further. It has by far been the most attractive thing about interning for NatWest Group

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Following from the support question - amazing. Everyone wants to help. Everyone is friendly. The teams are all clearly well connected. The employee networks are frequently encouraged and obviously very active. There are several schemes to keep people feeling connected and supported whilst working from home that I have enjoyed participating in. I love the community feel that comes across in every aspect I have encountered so far.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • High enjoyment and engagement levels. One or two sessions have felt slightly dull but other than that I am enjoying most sessions and activities I am attending and love exploring the company. It has exceeded my expectations as I thought I would be less engaged and less supported. It is also super flexible in helping me achieve exactly what I want out of the placement.

  • 7. Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
  • How well organised and friendly the program is. I would warn them how intensive the selection process is. I would encouraged them to be themselves as the bank values a variety of skills and personalities. I would warn somebody quieter/less confident that I think the interview process triumphs people with confidence, even if they have the same skills.
