    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • On the first day, we had an induction session, which helped us navigate our PwC-provided laptops and how PwC communicates internally. We then met our mentors and we were guided through a task, which we were then given time independently to complete. Whilst working independently, we were encouraged to use the Google Chat function to ask any questions or if we have any doubts about the work we were doing, and the mentor was always supportive. On the second day, we started with a quick coffee meet-up with our mentor, to discuss how the technical task was going and whether we were ready to progress. We were then given the opportunity to join in a real audit team meeting which gave insight on how people from across the UK can collaborate together through PwC's system. We were then given time to finish completing task one and have a quick break before we had a network panel, in which people from different societies were able to explain what they do for their society, what their goals are, how they promote equality in the workplace and a quick Q&A. In the afternoon, we were guided through a second task, before we met up with senior associates who work in Audit so we could ask questions about their day, their opinions and how they participated in the WiB Programme or Graduate Scheme. It was really insightful as to how PwC supports their workers. We were given the rest of the day to work on the second task. On the third and final day, we were given the opportunity to join either a yoga or HIIT session before work started- which many people took advantage of! We then had a one hour session about mental health, the stigma relating to it and how we can better out mental health in the workplace or at home by acknowledging out problems and coping mechanisms. We then met up with out mentor again to see how Task 2 was progressing and we were given the rest of the morning to complete the tasks. We are now doing a closing meeting, where we are allowed to anonymously express our opinions. Whilst we were doing out independent tasks, we were also provided with 5 online courses about Audit to complete if we finished early, this was insightful as auditors also train remotely and have to complete assessments and it allowed me to learn some new terminology.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the time at PwC, I learn how to communicate confidently in a professional environment. I also learnt how to do more difficult things within Excel, such as using equations and doing sums. Lastly, we used Google for all communication, and it was really effective because we had a calendar with reminders, and we were able to access other people's calendar so you can see if your mentor is free to have a coffee meet-up etc.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We were given a live meeting about all the potential roles that you can go into for Audit further down in your career, but they made it quite clear that within the first 5 years, you will be studying alongside working. This can get quite hectic and the career path up to that point is quite clear but they explained that despite this, everyone has a career coach that can help you navigate through decisions and other potential roles.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was really nice and supportive, even a PwC partner came to talk to us and she was happy to answer any questions despite her busy schedule. I never hesitated to ask any questions, especially to my mentor as she made me feel so comfortable even though I am normally quite a shy person. There is a strong internal system so everyone can communicate really well, even though everything was remote. I was given a lot of IT help!

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed it a lot, it gave me real insight to the life of an auditor, and they made us feel included, supported and helpful by giving us real tasks to complete. Furthermore, I enjoyed it because I was able to talk to a lot of people, and it helped push me out of my comfort zone and let me know that the professional environment isn't as daunting as it seems, and everyone is really nice and understanding- will help you if you need!

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • For the online interview, remember to speak confidently and sit up, some of it is bot monitored so you need to make sure you're in frame and projecting. For the assessment centre, I would suggest looking at all the tasks you need to do and make sure you manage your time really well, and you hit all the deadlines. But overall, do a lot of research online and prepare some answers in advance so you can be confident!
