  • - Communication skills; You need to follow up on emails with a meeting, be persistent and confident as your work is important as well - Time management/Prioritisation; You can't answer every email and sometimes, you need to set days to tackle a project, make sure you take time for yourself also - Execution; Answers are needed quickly, just get it done - it doesn't need to be perfect, you can come back to it but they need something to work with at least

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes - I had 3 roles and was the key point of contact for 2 of them. I was given sole responsibility for my 1st role about 4 months in but you start to join key and team meetings from the 1st few weeks.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • For the 1st two weeks I had 1-2 meetings with my line manager each day. After that, I had weekly/bi-weekly meeting with my LM and monthly meetings with my buddy. We also had department workshops with the HR team about 3-4 time during the year. You can dictate the frequency of contact you have with your LM and buddy - so increase the no. of meetings if you need more help. Also, alot of people are willing to chat for 30mins or IM you if you need help/are confused about something.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I didn't go into the office but the atmosphere and culture in my team was really nice. You can reach out to anyone and they're willing to help or talk to you. They embrace and really support all aspects of your well-being. There were regular competitions to get employees walking, random RRR days and they encourage taking a break for your mental health.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement - I just wished it was in the area that I'm studying. When applying to Supply Chain, you are sent to where there's a business need and that may not necessarily align with your degree. However, the opportunities to learn, grow and network are endless. Even though I wasn't in the role I wanted, I learnt about a whole new sector during my year there and now I can go into Supply Chain Logistics (due to my experience) or Supply Chain Manufacturing (due to my degree). I would go back to work for Unilever.

  • 7. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
  • - Get used to being uncomfortable - a lot of the time, you need to speak to people you don't know to get the work done - Get involved in the extra-curricular clubs, schemes and activities (sometimes you won't achieve the targets/criteria through your work alone - Join the IP and team activities; even when you're remote
