  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working within the supply chain function involves ensuring the successful end to end production of Unilever Products- across the current and future portfolio. Working within teams on projects focusing on different sections of the end to end supply chain, creating and analysing data, creating visualisations and working alongside teams comprised of cross functional members (including, but not limited to, marketing and research and development) responsible for ensuring successful roll-out of new innovations into the marketplace.

  • I have learnt a lot about the technicalities and considerations within supply chain and developed strongly in digital software's, alongside, visibility into considerations and tasks undertaken across many different functions, including marketing and research and development. Working from home has allowed me to develop my remote working skillset, building on all interpersonal skills -including communication and team working, all online. I have strongly developed all interpersonal skills throughout this year, including but not limited to working within large teams, presenting to large audiences, problem solving and communication.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement year which allowed me the ability to grow and further develop my technical and interpersonal skill set. After allowing me the time to undertake training and shadow colleagues, I was given the responsibility to lead multiple project teams, deliver and implement solutions developed, alongside, be a representative for my team in multiple forum's and project's. • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I recieved a lot of support and guidance throughout my placement from all colleagues and managers. I was given the opportunity to undertake trainings in areas I was unfamiliar in and shadowed members of my team to learn the ropes. I was made aware of all of the different support networks around me and people I could ask for help, on different problems and situations. • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and it has over-exceeded all expectations I had of a placement. I have really enjoyed the teams I have been working with, the activities I have undertaken, projects I have had the chance to work on alongside, the responsibility I was given and the broad range of skills I have been able to develop so strongly in. The positive culture of the company shines through and I always felt part of the team, even remotely. Would definitely go back.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
  • If you are considering applying for a placement at Unilever, I would strongly recommend it. Be yourself and be relaxed, during any interviews/ assessment centres. If you get offered a place, connect with other students joining the programme so you have a small network when you start. I was inspired to join as I loved what the company stood for, the values, it's purpose and the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. Alongside, being such a globally successful company and internationally recognised supply chain.
