    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • This role is mostly office and lab based. I work at a Unilever research site where I spend a lot of time in the lab helping to develop new products and technologies, as well as preparing reports and presentations for the higher-ups. There is also a remote working culture, where you can spend up to 2 days per week working from home (depending on your team structure and commitments).

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot about the science behind everyday cosmetic products, as well as the processes and technologies that go into their manufacture and characterisation. I have gained extensive laboratory experience as well as working in a corporate environment where I had to be responsible and organised. I have also had plenty of opportunities to present my research which has improved my confidence.

There were lots of placement students on the site so there was a friendly student group to spend time with out of work as well.
