  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involves the planning, execution and write-up of lab-based research to investigate potential drug candidates. Attending meetings to talk about my research and here about others within the team. Draw conclusions about my data in order to make decisions regarding which experiments should be tested next.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was the lead of my own project but had my supervisors help if required. I was also added onto a secondary project to help out there. Through meetings I have also had some understanding of other sides of the business.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Due to covid, no social events or company events were not able to take place. Outside however, there was a couple of social events going on with other students once restrictions were lifted. There were also a lot of charity and volunteering opportunities.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The placement exceeded my expectations. The company and my team had a great culture. The work was interesting but I would perhaps want to go in to a different area of the business next time.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to GSK
  • Having some small experience that stands you out from the rest of the competition is important (e.g. a day in a lab for example), but GSK are really looking for a student that is interested and highly motivated so make sure this comes across in the interview and application.
