    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Every day is different, which means its impossible to get bored and there's always exciting new projects to get involved in! Some of my day to day responsibilities include analysing sales data and promotional activity, checking stockholding and order levels to ensure the retailer doesn't run out of stock, and forecasting. There is a lot of relationship building within the role, and its great to be able to make connections internally with colleagues in different functions, as well as externally with the buyer. There are also lots of opportunities to get involved with shopper marketing activations to drive sales and brand recognition within the category and retailer.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've learnt so much over the space of the year and built upon all of my existing skills, despite working virtually for almost the entire time! My confidence has grown massively, and I have learnt how to manage my time effectively and become the most productive I can be. I didn't know anything about excel before, but after using religiously I have developed my skills to a very high level and been supported along the way with this. Unilever also encourage development and run many upskilling workshops/ training sessions that you can sign p to and attend. There is also an online platform called Degreed where you can work through a wide range of materials at your own pace when you have the time to focus on development.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The level of responsibility given at Unilever is great- everyone is given a REAL job with real responsibilities to allow us to develop our skills and take control. I was supported throughout my placement and never felt out of my depth, but I was given the power to put my own spin on things and take charge to really make my mark over the 12 months.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There was a high level of support throughout the year from line managers, as well as CBMs and people higher up in the organisation- everyone is keen to help in any way they can! I also had a really strong network of other interns who I could turn to for support or advice on a more casual level.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have loved every minute of my placement and genuinely wouldn't change anything for the world! I have learnt so much over the past 12 months, and there is a massive focus on development which is crucial this early in a career. Its a shame that we have been working virtually throughout the year, but I've been so impressed with the culture and how much I've enjoyed the role regardless.
