    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working in strategy and change management team for a global digital transformation project within Unilever. Working within a team to deliver one of Unilever’s most complex business transformations, to date. The team has the ambition of becoming World leading experts in digital transformation and the product being produced will digitally rewire the business from end to end. My role involves me communicating with people across the business and presenting my findings to them. I also host meetings regularly, which strengthens your communication skills. I was also responsible for managing two colleagues and coordinating tasks between us this involved me delegating tasks. I worked on Unilever's most complex

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • In the time I have been in the team, I have shown incredible depth to her skills and resilience in my chacarter. Despite joining the team digitally to accommodate the pandemic, I am now an integral team member due to my ability to flex between digesting complex digital solutions and influencing key stakeholders. I have learnt to adapt and learn new skills at incredible speeds when I realised there were knowledge gaps within my team. It is a distinguishable accomplishment to be able to contribute at such a high level in an expert team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The responsibility was immense, you were not just an assistant or supporting manager but you were given work which you own and I even got to manage and coordinate a team of 2 people. Beyond my work goals, I demonstrated true purpose by helping disadvantaged young people apply to Unilever through the outreach program. Having taken on accountability of the mentoring scheme and spearheaded this all myself. This allowed me to prove myself as a reliable and capable person in the team.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given constant support by my team members, who were always happy to help. This is something which is a lot harder when working virtually as you cant just tap someone's shoulder and ask them for help. But messaging on Teams instead of writing a formal email made the communication so much faster. We also had regular check ins with our managers where we were able to ask for support on any matters/

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was a super friendly and fun culture I really enjoyed speaking to people and although you weren't in an offer office in you got the general environment you was still able to get the general sense is of someone being really polite and happy to help and understanding and fun. this is that something that really made Unilever stand out for me because of the people and the kindness of all the employees at all levels so you were able to reach out to managers and directors and vice presidents as well as an apprentice it's so it's really nice

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement because I got the chance to network with not only like minded individuals of the same cohort as me but also directors and managers because I would just reach out to them and I really enjoyed it. I know that in an office things would have been different but we still got to make really great opportunities so there was an Easter social which the development team organised which was really fun and I really enjoyed it and I got to meet others while doing that and there was loads of pub quizzes

  • 7. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
  • The interviewer won’t know anything about you, so sell yourself - it is a clean slate (they are only there for the interview and do not see your application) Strike a careful balance between working as a team and ensuring you demonstrate your leadership skills. The scheme is called the UFLP, leadership is in the name, but you don’t always have to be the leader or have the loudest voice Back up what you are saying, they will ask you about it Don’t worry about the interview - they want you to succeed and make it conversational, so if you want to bring up something that is different from what they ask you feel free to
