    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The female bp discovery programme was a three-day programme (virtual due to the pandemic). It was full of networking sessions with employees from all different parts of the business and talks from people currently on the graduate programmes. We also got a talk from the people who are part of all the different groups you can join once you are part of bp. During the week we got put in a group and had to give a presentation on the last day about everything we had learnt.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was great to find out more about the wide range of roles I would be eligible for with my engineering degree. It helped me get a better appreciation for what I might get up to if I decided to apply for a summer internship at bp and on the graduate programme. We got to speak to recent graduates who were currently on the programme as well as people who had completed summer internships and were now working at bp.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was lovely. Employees seemed to genuinely reflect the values of the company in their everyday work and interact with each other with respect. Everyone seemed really friendly and were very helpful in answering all the questions, giving detailed answers that showed real insight into the company's inner workings. It was clear that there was a very active social side of bp, with lots of groups for all different interests, including those that encouraged diversity.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really loved the insight. It gave me a great opportunity to find out more about their company culture, job roles and the process for applying for a summer internship next year. The networking sessions allowed me to ask questions about the particular job roles and let me figure out which area of the business I would fit into best. It was also really nice to be able to connect with like-minded students who are also considering going into the energy industry.

  • 7. Would you recommend bp to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to bp
  • Really make sure to know their company values and have examples that show how you display these values ready to talk about in the interview. I would recommend preparing for the psychometric and numerical tests by doing online practice tests. Have a clear idea of why you are interested in bp as a company and make sure to follow their recent announcements through social media, such as following their CEO on LinkedIn. This helped me keep track of what they were investing in and show I was genuinely interested in the company.
