    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed this internship. I was in a small team of 3 within the marketing department, and there was a really strong support network between the 3 of us. The work itself was new to me, and I really enjoyed learning about all the different aspects of digital marketing.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given really good praise and feedback for the work I was doing, which was so lovely as it was brand new to me so it was really encouraging to know I was helping. I was told exactly how all of my work was contributing to the rest of the department.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was really helpful; he was advising both on my own work, and showing me some really exciting projects and software that he was using at a higher level. This really helped to put my work into context and I still feel supported even after finishing the internship, as he extended his support beyond the placement.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were some days where I had a lot to do, and some days which were much more relaxed. I did some market research tasks which were quite lengthy and so took more time, but my manager made sure I had a variety of tasks so I wasn't bored from doing the same thing.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing market research which didn't have a huge amount of responsibility, however they kept me really involved in what they were doing and their leading campaigns. This was perfect for me as I hadn't done this type of work before, and so I had a relaxed vibe while exploring this industry.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This massively helped me secure a graduate role at a leading company, as I had experience at corporate level and was able to confidently describe times where I had worked professionally. The learning and development I received was especially helpful, as my manager helped me to put together my LinkedIn profile as he works in marketing, which was again really helpful in getting a job.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really good; both the other team members were really inclusive and chatty. Everyone in the other rooms were also really friendly and spoke to me about uni and their general lives as well as the job. Really friendly atmosphere. The rooms were separate which made it less sociable, however it was fine as it was easy to go between rooms.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was less structured than a typical internship, as I did it through my uni so it was very last minute. I went for an interview the week before I started! However once I was there I knew exactly what I was doing and how long I had to complete my goals.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I wouldn't say invest as it was only part time for 6 weeks, however they did spend a lot of time talking to me about my personal goals and teaching me how to do things which took up their own time. For the time I was there, they did invest in me.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This isn't an industry I'd like to pursue as the actual company worked in an unfamiliar area, however the department (marketing) I have chosen to go into after uni. I would definitely recommend this as an internship, but I personally wouldn't want to go back into this area. The team I definitely would!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only intern, and so there wasn't anyone else there in my situation or my age. However this wasn't really noticeable, as everyone was so friendly. The whole office had around 25 people in it, and so I didn't feel like a student intern at all during it.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • This was in York where I went to uni, and so I had already built up the social life from university. York in general is very cheap though. For the North of England the rent is more expensive, but compared to the South it isn't at all. Social life is also very cheap.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very average. It is good for a student as there are lots of student nights and cheap bars to go to. However it is a small city and so the big city feel you don't get. Leeds is very close though and a really small train fare away, so easy to get to.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There wasn't for my department, although I'm not sure about further round. There was talk of a few team activities that have been done before I joined, and so perhaps if I was there longer then I may have seem some of these come round again, but not while I was there.
