    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Best way to get to know BCLP. Insight into all the different departments at the firm and completed real trainee tasks. Interacted with employees from all areas of the firm.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I contributed to an on-going deal and other matters such as amending contracts and checking over reports for trainees, associates and partners.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My trainee supervisor explained each task at hand and helped me along the way. If my supervisor was busy, there were plenty of other people to help. I sat in a room with a partner and he continuously offered support and guidance throughout the week, despite his busy schedule.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My analytical, problem-solving and time management skills were definitely challenged during the week. I came out with a much better understanding of the role of a trainee solicitor and what skills are truly required to excel.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Extremely well structured. There was time for two social events, five talks from partners and heads of departments from within the firm, graduate recruitment workshops, an in-depth induction, networking opportunities and plenty of time to work in our respective departments and learn from the work we completed.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was so friendly. The other insight schemers were lovely; everyone got on well. BCLP is known for its friendly, welcoming and collaborative atmosphere - this was definitely experienced during the Insight Week. Everyone from trainees, to partners, to legal secretaries or support staff were lovely and a pleasure to work with.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given guidance throughout the week and feedback on our work and our performance throughout. Graduate Recruitment also ran a workshop on how to excel at a BCLP assessment centre, highlighting the key skills required and what employees are looking for.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Undertaking real trainee tasks, speaking to employees across the firm and having insights into the firm's core departments and legal operations truly helped us understand BCLP as a law firm and a business.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Being around the people on a day-to-day basis helped us understand the collaborative and friendly culture. Additionally, we were given talks on BCLP's diversity and inclusion initiatives, pro bono work and CSR opportunities. It proved that there was so much to get involved in from day one. It was also very refreshing to work at a firm that truly valued their employees; this was exemplified by BCLP's truly exceptional diversity targets and initiatives that are carried out from all levels of the firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were paid adequately for our role.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Two social events with trainees, we shared offices with partners and associates and my trainee supervisors told me to go to additional networking events at the firm.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We went to the Flight Club on the first evening where we got to know our trainee supervisors, graduate recruitment and our fellow insight schemers. On Thursday evening we went to the Listing (a really fun bar) where we could wind down and get to know trainees from across the firm.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I played for the BCLP netball team during my week. My trainee supervisor invited me to play after I had written in my biography that I play for my university team. This was a great way to meet other employees from across the firm.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes - a great way to know the firm, meet new people and gain legal work experience. Also the fast-track process to a training contract or vacation scheme application at the firm provides an excellent opportunity.
