    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my summer internship at Morgan Stanley. I had a really interesting project which made me learn a lot of things about finance and machine learning. My team and especially my manager was really helpful and nice. I also learnt a lot of things about Morgan Stanley thanks to the several talks and networking events we had.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel valued by my colleagues because they showed interest in my project and some of them really helped me. I also did a presentation to my team of the software I am using to run machine learning algorithm, and a lot of them came and showed interest in it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager really helped me every single time I needed his help. Whenever I had questions about finance and how things work he was very helpful by sharing his expertise. He also recommended me papers to read to help me on my project and gave me some very helpful feedback.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had always something to do everyday, but I was never really in a rush to finish things. Especially at the beginning, I had time to get set up, to understand the project and even to watch some video lessons. Then I always had something to do but at the same time I had time for documenting myself.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As my manager was not an expert in machine leaning, I had responsibilities in term of finding and choosing the model by myself, while always checking with him that it was consistent. I also had responsibilities in term of coding choice, my manager did not really give me specific instructions about how to do it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think I learnt things here that will help me for my whole career. The amount of things I learnt about machine learning will definitely help me for my degree. And the financial knowledge and coding skills will help me throughout my career, especially if I decide to do it in an investment bank.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very nice. At first I thought the big open space would be a problem for me to work well and to remain concentrated all day, but in fact it didn't disturb me at all and it was very handy to have everyone near by to ask for help or even to chat around a coffee.

    5/5

  • The overall internship was well set up, with some helpful training and presentations at the beginning, and then several talks and networking event throughout the internship to make some break in the daily work and learn things at the same time. I think I really enjoyed the format of the internship.
