    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I felt very welcome at KPMG from the first day and this made me comfortable enough to ask any questions which was great. I had exposure to a variety of jobs and people, helping me to get the most out of my time there. With no accounting background I felt that I learnt a lot.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone made an effort to get to know me and make sure I was enjoying my time. I was treated like everyone else and by the end I didn’t want to leave. I had contact with all grades of people and they were all kind to me and were never too busy.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I had so many people who I could email or meet to ask questions or find out about pretty much anything. They were always quick to respond and would make time to speak to me no matter what, even if they had a full diary. I had regular contact with my performance manager too.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In my Economics degree having this accounting experience will help me to see the details behind the broader picture. Having studied corporate finance modules I got real life experience using the terminology. I learnt a lot about clients and meetings which will help me in the future, with colleagues and friends in general.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I knew from day 1 where I was going to be for the month so having this planned out was good. I had a number of contacts given to me on the first day who I could go to with questions, and I also had regular meetings planned with my performance manager to keep up to date with him.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The office was very relaxed and people were around to chat and help with the work. We all went to lunch together, and I didn’t have a day where I wasn’t invited for lunch. At the client it was a professional atmosphere and we knew what we were doing so I felt relaxed.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As an intern I completed online training and tests to make sure I was aware of the code of conduct and my responsibilities. I was able to speak with lots of people about possible future careers. I was made aware of the opportunities available as a graduate, which is what I am hoping I will have the opportunity to do.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I had experience of what the job would be like straight away, going out to a client on the first week in Solihull and seeing the travelling and time taken. I was given the same training on the first few days as I would if I was starting a job. I worked my full contracted hours. I was also given specific roles whilst out at clients, rather than just shadowing.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • From the start I got a great vibe about the company and the people. It was hard to tell who was higher up in the firm because everyone was so friendly in the department. I got the chance to work with a variety of people and found out how they got to where they are and what they like about the company. I heard nothing but positive comments.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Since my internship I am really hoping to be offered a graduate role place. I really enjoyed the work and the fact that every day was so different attracted me. Although I do not study any accounting or have much knowledge at all I felt I picked it up quickly.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for the four weeks and also was able to claim expenses on all travel to the client and lunch at the client. The system was efficient and I have had no problems.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I attended multiple social events during my time at kpmg. I did drinks, attended a department meeting, went to a peer to peer networking event and went to a meal with the other interns. I learnt a lot about different roles and pathways which I found really beneficial.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I really enjoyed the activities. They were informative but relaxed meaning I could ask lots of questions. It was nice to socialise outside of the office too, and I found that I was closer to people after these events and have stayed in touch with them now. Overall it was well organised and I’m glad I got to experience so much in such a short space of time.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I spoke to people about activities and social events on offer at kpmg. They are very regular and everyone on the team said how much everyone enjoys them and how they help the team get closer. I heard about the residential at the beginning of the grad scheme which is where all the grads said they met each other.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would recommend this internship to any of my friends. It was a great length of time in that it was packed full of different things to do and get the most out of it, whilst not being too long that you feel like you’re in a full time job. I think the fact we were there for only 4 weeks meant everyone was making a big effort every day.
