The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Tesco, i almost feel like the 10 weeks hasn't been enough as i am learning more and more each day. Everyone here has been so supportive and overall lovely, everyone is willing to put some time in with you so you can understand more about their role and what they do at Tesco. The projects were also very interesting with them having an impact on the business.
I felt very valued when i was at Tesco as they would like you to stay onto the Graduate scheme that they run. But also personally, everyone acknowledges that you're still learning so they're very willing to help and give you advice on your projects - they know you're doing something to benefit the company and not making tea and coffee.
I was given loads support by my manager and had weekly meetings but i also sat next to them on a daily basis therefore could ask anything i needed to. However, they did have some time off whilst i was doing my internship therefore could't help me whilst away but left me in the capable hands of their manager and another colleague.
It varied depending on the submissions needed for that week - week one being the most busy but also week 4/5 in preparation for week 1. Also it varied on if the people I needed to contact had got back to me because sometimes you could not progress for that day if you did not ave the right information or the numbers required.
I was given an immense amount of responsibility as an intern, i would have never expected to be submitting numbers for the period report or contacting people from other countries and asking them to check/change something. Also managers coming to me to check something or ask a question - honestly just mind boggling because as an intern that is not what you would expect.
The excel workshop i attended will help me tonnes in both my degree and work in the future due to the type of role i would like to go into in the future. Furthermore, my presentation skills have been both tested and improved whilst i have been here due to the sheer amount i have had to do and the feedback i have received on them.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office varied on a day to day basis depending on what other peoples weeks were and when their submission deadlines were, however, there was always laughing and jokes but the amount of people in the office varied quite significant as people may have been out in stores also.
The overall organisation was good, however, the amount of contact before was quite poor and was very infrequent with what was going on. And there was also a technical error when we first arrived with our logins so we couldn't use our computers or emails for a few days. But after these issues were resolved, the rest of the internship was well organised.
We did not receive as much training as i would have expected, especially considering we were going into stores for a few days and the amount of training we received for this was basic. But in terms of our individual functions we received a lot of training in terms of formal training and learning on the job.

I would love to be offered the graduate scheme here for Tesco as i loved the work and i loved the atmosphere and ethos of the company. Also there is so much of the business i have yet to discover therefore getting a job here would allow me to see that.
The Culture
There was a large amount of opportunity for social events but the turn out for them varied as people were always busy at different times or lived in London or away from London therefore it had to be a specific day or time, also having them on a set day would help (Thursday nights) so people couldn't forget they were happening.
I was very lucky in the fact that I had a friend who lived close by so i could stay with them for the majority of the internship and not have to worry much about rent or travel costs. But a lot of people commute in from london which can become expensive. Socialising was hard to come by due to location.
Nightlife was pretty poor in Welwyn Garden City as the city is very small and is mainly focused on families rather than young students and the campus was not in the city itself. However, if you worked in the London office then it is a completely different story as there is loads in london.
There was loads of activities to get involved in such as a charity challenge which all interns had to get involved in, also community work such as renovating a community centre. Furthermore, there was a finance netball tournament over the course of August and also a finance treasure hunt around london as a team building event.
