    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at PwC; coming from a background completely unrelated to accountancy I was apprehensive at first. Despite this, I found the training and support to be extremely helpful, this allowed me to get a lot more out of my time. The work was interesting and varied and allowed me to learn a lot, both about assurance and about PwC.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Literally every single person I met at PwC was willing to help me out, regardless of whether I was working with them or if the issue was work related or not. I felt as if they trusted me to complete tasks and also that they trusted me to ask for help when necessary, and the attitude towards asking questions made this easy.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My career coach was always willing to help or answer any questions through my internship and this made me feel a lot more comfortable in taking on responsibility. In addition to this, management, when they were around on jobs, were very nice and helped with anything I asked. The very 'open door' nature of the office and teams was good too.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the majority of the internship I was kept busy with meaningful tasks. These allowed me to develop my skills and gain knowledge about the clients I worked on. The nature of the work in assurance meant that at times there wasn't much to do ,for a variety of reasons, however this was never for too long of a period of time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was given responsibility from the outset which was rather daunting however the attitude towards asking questions and coaching made me comfortable with this and allowed me to utilise the responsibility to my advantage. I feel like I developed a lot quicker and learnt a lot more as a result.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It is difficult to say because my degree is not maths/finance/accounting related therefore as far as directly transferable skills to my degree go, probably not much. Despite this, the skills will help me in my future career and life. My skills and knowledge of how businesses work more generally was enhanced due to the client exposure I received on the internship and this will undoubtedly be useful going forward.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was really positive and this helped out a lot when it came to completing my work as I felt as if I could approach anyone for help. The open plan layout was also helpful in this respect as it meant that you could meet new people and gave you a much broader experience of the firm.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised throughout in terms of resourcing to jobs and training. We were given a lot of responsibility in terms of managing our own time and seeking out advice when necessary, as well as with travelling to jobs and things, however I felt that this was an important part of the internship and gave a more accurate representation of working there.I flewt

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt like PwC genuinely wanted to make have a positive impact on us and the training and experiences that I had throughout my internship proved this. I was able to experience training in a variety of forms and was able to travel to various clients around the country, which gave me a lot of experience working with different clients.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was very good and it felt as if PwC facilitated this well. It helped with networking but also with learning and development over the course of the internship as it was easy to approach people for help as you would more than likely be experiencing similar issues.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living is decent in Leeds but it is difficult to comment accurately as I live and study in Leeds so did not need to find accomodation for it.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were various opportunities but things such as sports were limited as we were not there for that long.
