    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoy the corporate culture. I don't have the sense of distance when I work with people from different level. Everyone is supportive and helpful. I feel the diversity when I work in the company, I can know more about different cultures. I attended many activities organized by the company, like Ascot, assurance breakfast, which enriched my experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I can help the team to undertake sample testing, query clients, and check their works. Although most of works assigned to me are straightford, I would try to finish them on time and correctly to promote the process of auditing. I'd like to ask for more work when I'm free.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When I was assigned new tasks, they introduced the basic information or background to me first, helping me understand more and then instruct me the basic procedures. Whenever I was struggled with, my in-charge would like to guide me and explain the concepts or rule in detail. They would give me feedbacks on time and point out development points to me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It depends on the work I worked on. When it is a tight deadline, I would work all the time and try to finish by the time. After I finish my own work, I normally helped others to do more works. When it came to some simple work, I sometimes have my own time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Not too much responsibility was given. Most of work I did relating to build basic framework, fill in business information, check and review works that have been done. I should make sure that I follow the instructions and do things correctly. I expect to take more responsibilities when I take the graduate scheme.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Excel skills, knowledge about accounting and finance helped me understand the tasks quickly and efficiently. I'm familiar with some of excel formulas so that I can collate figures more easily. The knowledge relating to accounting helped me find out the key information I need and understand the audit procedure more.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the general atmosphere in Reading office is nice and neat. there are many facilities that can satisfy my working requirement. Like there is kitchen, fridge, microwave, which is very convenient to store food and heat. and there are also lockers, which are helpful for storing laptops and important documents. there are also some area for entertainment like ping-pang table and quiet room

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I really appreciate that the internship begun with three days training, which helped me get a basic understanding of work and be familiar with more about PwC system. The first day I came to Reading office is impressive. We were toured to have a look of the overall structure of office and introduced some basic information by our buddies.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I took the first three days internship training in Windsor. I was taught about accounting and audit knowledge and how to use Aura, etc. I did elearn from vantage about professional skepticism, basic principles and knowledge about pension scheme. I was given buddy and career coach at the beginning of internship, which is really helpful.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company would sponsor us to finish ACA qualification and hold relevant training, which is really helpful. I will do more audit work and apply knowledge in practice I can get access to more extra elearns like cyber security, business analytics I will meet more clients and work onsite to build broad relationship

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • People around me are friendly and interesting. We attended many activities together, like assurance breakfast, group meeting and Ascot. People with high level always share their experience and explain the tasks in detail to me. I'd like to chat with them during lunch time. I also felt the diversity when i work with different team.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • PwC always holds different kinds of activities to all people. We can feel free to join like social drinking. The level of cost of living is acceptable.

  • relaxing and freedom, not too much pressure from work. I can choose whatever I want to do in the evening.

  • yes, we were invited to attend many kinds of activities and got to know many interesting people in the company
