    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my time at PwC on the 2019 summer internship. The work was challenging and stimulating and I was given lots of responsibility and felt like an important part of the team when I was working on my projects. The teams of people were welcoming, supportive and friendly and invited me to engage with them on a social level around the work.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my internship, I felt included and welcome with each of the teams that I worked with. It was easy to build a good rapport with everyone. I felt comfortable asking my colleagues questions when I sought further clarification and they were open and informative in their responses to me.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The 'buddy' system worked very well as a concept used by PwC for the summer interns. My buddy was really helpful, welcoming and a good source of connections to reach out to for project work over my six weeks at the company. My career coach also helped me to work on setting and achieving my goals.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was involved in project work for most of my internship which kept me busy with tasks to complete every day. In the first week, the residential induction, compliance tasks and introduction meetings to members of the team kept me busy. The tasks that I was given were technical, challenging and, for the most part, important for the progress of each project. In any spare time, I was encouraged to complete training to further my technical skills.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Particularly during my last project, I was given a fair bit of responsibility, given that I was an intern. I was researching and building a project product, reporting my progress directly to my manager. I was then given the opportunity to present my work to the client once I had completed it.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The technical skills that I gained in coding will be directly useful for my degree studies in Physics experiments for efficiently handling and presenting data. The training that I undertook will also be useful for my future career as I will be able to take what I have learnt and be able to apply it to a variety of future projects.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere of the PwC More London office was a really positive, productive one. The atmosphere was conducive to good productivity as well as providing opportunities for breaks. The collaborative tables made working with colleagues easier and more sociable. The design of the office made it a very pleasant place to be.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the internship was fantastic. Communication from the organisers was clear and timely and any queries were dealt with promptly. The specific events organised during the induction process were very well run and provided a good opportunity to network with other interns and undergo introductory training relevant to my business area.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company assigned a career coach to me with whom I outlined my goals for the internship. My career coach then regularly caught up with me to ensure that I was achieving my goals, ready with suggestions for actions to take for further development. I was also provided with opportunities to undergo technical training by the firm.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be very interested to take an opportunity with PwC after doing an internship in the firm. I feel as though I have been given a valuable insight into the culture of the firm, the work that I would expect to do and the sorts of people I would be likely to work with.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My fellow summer intern colleagues and I would go to lunch together on a daily basis and met for drinks on a couple of occasions. When the team organised social events, we, as interns, were invited to come along and thus we felt very included in the social side of the firm.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive, but that is no surprise! Lunches and drinks were expensive but I was expecting them to be.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't experience the nightlife in the area that I worked.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The team organised several social events during my time as a summer intern. These included an away day for the entire business unit, a drinks and escape rooms afternoon/evening and a bowling/activities evening. All of these were fun opportunities to meet members of the team and business unit and make new connections in the firm.
