    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am currently doing summer internship at Barclays as a Technology Analyst. It's my third week here and the time just flies because of all the challenging tasks, networking events and training sessions I've been doing. The opportunities provided by Barclays are terrific, they allow me to focus on personal development, improve my interpersonal skills and enjoy my time being here at the same time!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have been allocated to a great team. My colleagues have been helping me along the way, supported me when I just came and made sure I was given the answer to any question I had. I have been sometimes approached by my colleagues to help them with some of their day-to-day tasks, which made me really proud as they believed in me and what I was capable of.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The manager I have been appointed to is extremely supportive and helpful. He is always here for me, ready to answer any of my queries and questions. He clearly explains to me my tasks and responsibilities and helps me with doing additional things such as networking or getting to know other areas of the bank.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My concern when joining the summer intern was the inability to bring actual benefit and value to the business. However, when I told my manager that I would really like to do something valuable and important for the organization, he provided me with the tasks where I could deliver things to the team and beyond that will be later on used and referenced. Although it wasn't a huge responsibility, still making something that other will refer to in the nearest future felt really good

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office and in my team was fantastic! When joining, I worried that because it's a corporate company, it's all going to be work-focused only, with people trying to show off and convince the rest that they are the best. However, it appeared to be completely different. People here are friendly and kind, ready to sometimes move away from work and just have a chat. This leads to a day being less tiring as well as to finding friends among my colleagues that I can spend time with outside of work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Despite the small confusion in the beginning with the documents checking, the rest of the internship went smoothly. There are many events organised that an intern can easily attend, many of those can be moved to another time/date if needed. Mandatory training sessions have been very interesting and useful, while social events allowed to enjoy the time here more and find true soul mates

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say, that investment was in terms of people's time and attention towards me and my performance. I was surprised by everyone's ability to leave their daily tasks for some time to have meetings with me, to answer my questions and to teach me some necessary skills for my position. Moreover, people always found time to answer my emails and come to see me and to give insight into what they do, despite having pretty tight schedules and high responsibilities on them.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I enjoy where I am right now, and I would like to receive a graduate scheme offer in the end of my time here. I find the work not only challenging, but also fun and interesting. I love the atmosphere and the attitude towards work-life balance, I love the relationship between the team members and the managers. I just enjoy it here!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was able to find some of my course mates that joined Barclays and sometimes we would arrange some fun things together to relax from work. I also had a lot of fun time with my fellow technology interns most of who I knew from the spring week, although still meeting many great people who only joined this summer

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Having a group chat with other technology interns, we have arranged many social events, some of which we arranged fully ourselves, while others we have found through Barclays opportunities. The events included social gatherings after work, sport events such as yoga classes or wakeboarding lessons, as well as BBQ and ordinary lunches together.
