    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it thoroughly and would love to return. The placement enabled us to conduct real analyst work and some of which was even sent of to clients. The employees there were very hard working and also supportive of us throughout. In addition, there was many events outside of work which were enjoyable

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued as was regularly tasked with work that was meaningful. In addition I received good feedback which helped me improve throughout. Moreover, the team were very patient when teaching something new or explaining a concept which was greatly appreciated. Altogether it was a great team that gave a lot to the summer analysts.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We were made to set ourselves some goals which we would be asked about in our mid-review and our final review. This enabled us to be focused and guided are actions throughout. In addition HR set up walk-in sessions where interns could voice there concerns or any issues confidentially which was great.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We were very busy throughout with lots of tasks. This was mainly helped by an understaffed team which meant there was plenty of work to go around. However it was not overwhelming as the managers understood everyone's schedules/ capabilities. This ensured everyone had work that there were able to complete with there knowledge

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A large amount of responsibility as we were tasked with work that would be directly sent to clients, hence was extremely of value. In addition, we were taken to client meetings/ on calls which was important to our learning and felt that the firm trusted our actions in these situations.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Studying a science degree this was probably not as helpful however the skills such as problem solving, communication and team-work would directly assist in my degree and other education. In addition, the training given would be beneficial to a masters that I may undertake in finance hence the training would be useful.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was very hardworking and focused. A lot was going on but the team were always accommodating to any needs. Teams were very integrated and there were regular team meetings to see how the other parts of the business are doing. In addition, there were many support teams to help with any issues.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised with an initial training week and then time on the desk with two rotations. The graduate team also put together many events throughout the time also. There were regular networking events with senior leadership and engage with other business areas. There was also support sessions throughout if needed.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They brought in external trainers to work with us throughout our training week. They also put together a leadership day with activities throughout. Moreover, they paid for access to many applications that enabled us to learn effectively. Moreover before the internship they provided us with many resources that enabled us to gain a base knowledge.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing as there graduate scheme is very well organised. If you perform well you will be offered a grad offer with the possibility of choosing the team you would like. In addition, they have a strong progression system to move up in the hierarchy to gain leadership roles in fast time.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good but everything you had to do with the other interns you had to organise yourself. It would've been great if graduate team could organise a few more events where we could catch up that would be amazing. However the events they did organise were great and fully worth the time we spent.

  • I commuted from home so it was not an applicable question.

  • Bars on friday were packed and many interns were there which was great.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had a global community day which was great. There was also other events that wer helpful and fun to be a part of.
