    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. J&J is a great company to work for. The team was extremely welcoming and I was given lots of interesting projects. The office was also extremely modern with great facilities such as a gym. I also learnt lots of skills which I can use in the future.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like I integrated extremely well with my team. I created strong relationships and even met up outside of work for social occasions. I felt like they genuinely cared for and my wellbeing. They really did value the work that I did and rewarded me for good work on numerous occasions.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was fantastic. We got on extremely well and worked to a high standard together. She would take the time to have meetings on work related topics but also just to have a friendly chat about how things were going. I felt like I could always speak to her if needed and that she wanted the best for me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Overall, I was quite busy. However, I only completed work that was needed to be done rather than given meaningless tasks. This meant that there were some periods that were very busy and others that were a lot less busy. Sometimes, I had to ask for more work if it was a particular slow day.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I was never given any meaningless tasks and the projects I completed impacted the whole company around the world. I was never treated as just a placement, but a true member of the team completing very important work.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During the placement I learnt invaluable marketing skills. At University I study Biomedicine and the placement is in marketing. This meant that I had little knowledge of marketing prior. Even though, the placement will not assist my degree studies, it will help me when I graduate. I got to work in a professional environment developing my interpersonal skills and marketing skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Overall, the atmosphere was good due to the positivity of the team. However, due to a change in leadership and organisation changes, people were sometimes stressed. This was due to workload and issues with job security. The team were still positive during the testing times of the years which is why I gave the rating a 7.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was the first placement student my team has ever had. This meant that I had no handover and there was no set tasks in place for me when I joined. This meant I was thrown in at the deep end. However, this meant I learnt extremely quickly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company do invest in your personal training and development. However, there was no possibility of being offered a graduate role following University. You are fast tracked on the assessment days but it would have been great to have this as an option.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There doesn't seem to be many openings for the graduate scheme and there are a lot of Marketing placements. An entry level job seems more enticing and there are quite a few openings in different departments. It would have been great to see more openings for the graduate scheme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I have rated this 5 as all social events for placements were organised by our selves. There was never any organised events for us and we didn't have a official introductory session to chat and get to know each other.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in reading and the living accommodation for being so close to London was actually quite affordable. Reading is also not that expensive for socialising.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area around the office had no night life. However, in Reading the nightlife is actually quite good due to there being a University.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There weren't much opportunities outside of work. However, we did do some charity work together as a team.
