    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The Horizon Women Insight Programme at the Rothschild & Co was very insightful and enriching. I got a valuable opportunity to get to learn about the different service lines that the bank provides within its divisions. Moreover, learning about the whole history of the family was very enjoyable. I definitely enjoyed this programme.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Despite the fact that there were quite many of us participating in this programme, I felt really valued. No matter what personal or professional needs we had, Rothschild & Co did its best to meet all of our needs. In my opinion, our voices were heard and they were considered in every action taken.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Before we starting working on our projects in our teams, we received a well- and clearly defined task, which made our work much easier. The same was during the completion of the project. For instance, since that particular project required a presentation, we received a very valuable session on presentation skills.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Since I am studying Banking and Finance as my major, the week at Rothschild & Co was very valuable for me. I did learn a lot about the industry, banks, their main functions and operations. Plus, I developed some of skills, such as communication and working under pressure, which in my opinion will definitely help me in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The whole programme was very well-structured. Starting with the introductory sessions and ending with our final presentations, the programme had a very smooth flow. I think primarily due to this, it was quite straightforward and easy to understand and absorb a new information received. I did definitely find the insight well planned.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The environment was very friendly and welcoming whilst also being very professional. From analysts to divisional directors, everyone was very helpful and happy to answer all of our questions. The Human Resources staff especially did its best to ensure a friendly atmosphere. The same was felt whilst shadowing analysts in different divisions.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In my opinion, Rothschild & Co, puts its employees in the top priority. Given that the size of the bank is smaller unlike other investment banks, it is especially well felt and seen. Having talked to the bank’s employees I learnt that it invests in different programmes to ensure a constant personal and professional development of its employees.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Whilst it was a very insightful experience, I do really think that you cannot get the best feel in such a short period of time. So I hope that the summer internship at the bank, will actually help me understand what it would be like to have a full time role at the bank.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Despite the short period of time spent at the bank, i got to learn a lot about the bank’s culture. Through range of activities, such as workshops and work shadowing sessions, I did learn that, for example, at Rothschild & Co, I will work in a smaller teams, which i’m very excited about.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Although we did work on various industry related case studies, I thought that it would much more useful if our project was actually based on finance related topic as well. Other than that, after a week at Rothschild & Co, i think i still would love to stay and earn experience in this particular individual.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Since I am not a London based student I had to get the kids from Leeds to London and I also had to stay at hotel. At the end of the programme Rothschild & Co all of the expenses expenses. Besides that we were provided with daily lunch which is much appreciated.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Do you ring this week at their bank we had many opportunities to network with its employees. For example, during the work shadowing sessions for two consecutive days we have a chance to talk to current analysts and discuss their experience at the bank so far. Moreover we had many chances to talk to directors and ask them different sorts of questions.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I did really enjoy all of the networking opportunities provided by the bank. First of all it was a great chance to learn about the culture of the bank its employees and how generally the work is done within its divisions. Secondly I got to meet many like minded students from different parts of the United Kingdom and also Europe.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • During the program we had multiple presentation sessions on the things that the bank does outside of work. It is involved in many volunteering opportunities and mentoring/coaching schemes which I found particularly interesting. So generally, we did not only learn about the service lines of the bank but we also got to know about different things that the bank does outside of work.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I will definitely recommend the spring insight program at Rothschild & Co because it provides with all you need to get a feel of how it will be like to work in the industry. Other than that I would especially recommend this program to those of my friends, who prefer to work in a smaller teams and get the responsibility as soon as possible.
