About You
I took part in the Women in Business programme and enjoyed the opportunity to work really closely with high achieving women at PwC. I was given lots of tasks to do and was taken to lots of meetings which meant I enjoyed seeing what day to day life is like for a woman working at PwC.
I was given lots of tasks to complete which meant I felt like I was a useful part of the team for the three days that I was there. I study German and when they realised this I was sent some bits to translate from German into English which made me feel that my skills were being recognised and valued.
I received a lot of guidance and support during the insight. Everyone I worked with was always happy to answer my questions or give me some feedback. They also organised for me to spend some time with someone in a graduate role so that I could get lots of advice on the process of applying for a job at PwC.
3 days probably wasn't long enough to really develop new skills but I did have to be organised, work quickly and be willing to take on tasks that I was unfamiliar with so these were things that I think will be useful in the future.
The Company
The insight was well structured. There was an introduction morning with the other participants and then as much of the time as possible was spent with the women I was shadowing which meant that I could get as much as possible out of the three days. It would have been better if it had been a week long instead of 3 days.
The atmosphere was very positive. Everyone I met was very friendly and helpful and wanted to give me as much advice as possible.
As it was only a 3 day programme this question doesn't really apply but from talking to others who had taken part in longer programmes I think the company does invest a lot of time in training and development.
As I spent the three days working in a team at a client site the insight gave me a really good insight into what it would be like to work with PwC on a full time basis.
I got a good sense of what sort of people work there, how they interact and what the values of the company are.
The chance to work so closely with a team rather than simply carrying out group activities with other students which simulate a working environment meant that I could actually see what life as a consultant is like giving me a good idea of whether it would be something I would like to do in the future or not.
Everything Else
I was paid for the 3 days which surprised me as insights are not normally paid.
I got to meet the people who were working closely with the women who I was shadowing but there weren't any networking events that were run.
As it was only a three day placement there weren't any networking or social event opportunities.
I wasn't explicitly told about these but had already seen them on the website.
I would definitely recommend the insight to a friend as it was the best way to get a sense of what it's like to be a consultant on a daily basis rather than just being taught about things in a group with other students. Everyone was really friendly and helpful and I had a very enjoyable time.
