About You
I enjoyed the programme very much as I learnt so much. I did a lot of challenging and interesting work. I got a great taste for what Actuarial work involves as well as my buddy giving me lots of useful tips. The team were very welcoming and the company culture was cool. The programme surpassed my expectations thankfully.
I felt very valued at PwC although I was only a work experience student. They paid me very well and I felt appreciated by all the workers, especially the manager. I got about 20 emails of congratulations and thanks for helping them which was a really nice feeling. I was involved in a lot of tasks and projects too.
I received a lot of support from PwC. They gave me my own laptop and any other things that I felt I needed to help me do my tasks that I was allocated. I was assigned a buddy who was extremely useful and lovely. The general attitude to supporting me was very good and I felt really good about that.
I learnt many new skills. When I gained work experience at PwC, I undertook a two day Microsoft Excel training course. I learnt the basics of using the programme such as navigation, formatting, conditional logic functions, use of pivot tables, macros, named ranges and lookups. Using the skills I had acquired from the basic Excel course, I did a simple financial modelling course which I found very interesting. Most Actuary’s use Microsoft Excel regularly so I feel my training should prove very beneficial to me. This has been extremely useful in my degree.
The Company
It was an ad-hoc work experience programme so it wasn't structured at all. However, I did receive a detailed induction where I was showed around and introduced to all of the team. I was assigned a buddy who was extremely useful and lovely. I was delegated a lot of tasked making me feel extremely valued and overall the programme was well organised.
The general atmosphere in the office was very relaxed and cool. Everyone was so friendly and I really enjoyed speaking to the whole team and learning more about the profession. We always went down to lunch together and socialised out of work so that was really good and I felt comfortable.
They gave me a laptop which was nice
It didn't help too much as it's so much different to a full time role

I definitely want to be an Actuary now.
Everything Else
They paid me very well even though I was only a work experience student for two weeks. They unfortunately didn't cover living costs, travel costs, daily costs, social costs. I believe because it was in London I was paid a bit more to compensate which felt really good and really useful.
So I attended a really well structured AGM and an after party which was really nice. There were also qualification drinks for those who had passed their Actuarial exams which were really fun and it felt good that I didn't have to pay for the drinks. There is an events team that organises lots of fun events which I wish I could be apart of.

The opportunities were really good and I managed to meet people from different areas of the company and also managed to network with different people from different companies too!
There is an events team that organises lots of fun events which I wish I could be apart of. They have football, cricket and tennis days which sounds really good. They also go to the casino and nightclubs often which creates a good social atmosphere which is really enticing to me.
I definitely would recommend PwC to a friend due to these reasons as I learnt all of these things: • Completed an Annuity Market Review independently which involved market research, modelling and producing a presentation • Played an active role in the development of an automated report on reserve uncertainties • Helped organise the Risk Modelling Services AGM • Conducted market research regarding capital risk on potential banking clients • Oversaw and helped conduct a half year audit for a global insurance company • Undertook business development projects
