    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a fantastic way to understand more about a career in M&A and about the firm. You get involved from day 1 on huge projects, many of which were live, and add value to them too!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • People invested a lot of time into us. They would generously set aside time to actively inform us of their experiences and work and would always be approachable if I had any questions. My opinion was always encouraged and listened to and I felt like I was a value-adding member of the team

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisors oversaw much of my work and my scheduling, and were regularly asking us how things were going. They would be encouraging and helpful and were also approachable for questions.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We were always kept busy with something as our staffers were always keen to understand the work we had gotten involved with and our progress. There were few times when work for the interns was limited, but these moments were useful to catch up with stuff like the news, so you're always learning.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • One of the best things about the internship programme at Rothschild is that responsibility was built up over the 10 weeks. The tasks we were given steadily became more challenging and more involved and we were given more independence as we understood how things worked around the team. Towards the latter half of the internship, we were given a lot of responsibility and were effectively integrated into various deal teams on various projects.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I picked up a lot of technical which will, no doubt, be invaluable to understanding business and M&A for my future career. In addition to this, the internship was a great driver of development for soft skills as my confidence grew in offering my opinions, approaching new people, learning about new things and beyond!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • People were incredibly friendly and welcoming. There was a clear atmosphere of team work and collaboration which I highly valued as you never felt alone at your work - you could always ask anyone for help, be it junior bankers, seniors, or fellow interns. The MDs were also incredibly approachable in having chats and were really willing to get to know the interns

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the internship was amazing - it was a very smooth process with no issues. The HR team organised many social events too which was a great way to catch up with fellow interns and people in other business areas. Our team also made sure we settled in well and would regularly ask if there's any improvements that could be made

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week is dedicated to training which is incredibly useful. This helped us understand how things worked at the firm and developed our technical skills from scratch - hence I believe the firm invested heavily in personal training and development. Further, we had mid-internship catch-ups which were useful in understanding our strengths and weaknesses and having it halfway through the internship gave us the opportunity to improve.

  • The internship was an amazing opportunity to understand whether the firm was a good fit for me and I certainly felt challenged, welcomed, and like the firm is one where I can thrive

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns would regularly hold nights out and social events independently which was great to make friends and to get to know each other better. HR organised numerous social events, and our teams had individually organised events too. There was lots going on which made the experience really fun!
