The Role
Had a great time on my internship. The firm seems an excellent place to work and they took great care of us interns. I gained a lot of experience and exposure and would recommended the firm for an internship to anyone.
Everyone was super friendly and approachable. I was given a lot of responsibility from day one and wasn't made to feel like 'just an intern'.
There was always someone to help me and asking questions was strongly encouraged. There really is 'no such thing as a stupid question' at PwC. They would much rather you ask lots of questions to understand what you're doing than not ask and make loads of mistakes!
Hours were very regular from 9:00-17:30 and working overtime is strongly discouraged! I worked extra one day got ripped for it - in a good way! I was given a very manageable workload that kept me busy but didn't overstretch me.
As much as any intern would expect. A good amount so that I felt I was actually contributing and doing work associates would do.
Degree - not particularly applicable. Further life - would say I learnt a lot of soft skills. Learnt specifics related to accounting.
The Company
Excellent atmosphere. Everyone was good fun, friendly and approachable. Had a very young vibe to it with the average age being something like 27!
For myself I had a good timesheet/schedule so had no issues on this front. You had work allocated but also had the flexibility to steer yourself to particular projects if you wanted to.
We had an excursion in a really nice hotel in Windsor with all the other UK interns and felt looked after very well. Also was treated to a few free lunches during the internship which was nice. We also had a Dragon's Den competition where we put up in a 5* hotel (Royal Horseguards) which was unreal. Definitely felt well looked after and invested in.
Offered a full time offer however I am considering another line of service. Requires you take more steps but the beauty of being in a big firm like PwC is the fact that there are so many different departments which offer different things and people are so enthusiastic to talk to you about what they do and lend a hand.
The Culture
In terms of fellow interns - relatively good. Got on really well with everyone and had great crack. In terms of colleagues - also strong. Had many evenings in the pub with colleagues, played football every week (even partners get involved sometimes!) and also did Fringe events which the company paid for as I was based in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh as a place is expensive and during the fringe it gets even worse.
Edinburgh itself is a vibrant city and that combined with the Fringe festival meant the evenings were a blast.
As above: played football every week, you could also play basketball and netball I believe; pub outings; Fringe events.
