    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship at the firm was great, both a good learning and working experience. My colleagues and supervisors always made sure that I am put on interesting work and also that I could experience a range of different areas. I also very much enjoyed having an insight into a great office community, socials and lunch breaks were always lots of fun.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern, I always received a lot of time and attention from my colleagues. Everyone was happy to sit down for a chat or walk me through their work so I could have an insight into what they were doing. Most of the work I was given was also interesting, with people being keen to help if I was stuck with something.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support and advice. I enjoyed being given autonomy at work from the first moment. However, in case I needed any the supervisors (or even colleagues with relevant knowledge, even if they were not on the project) were always keen to help. Tasks were also always clearly outlined.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I worked here in the summer and I could see that this is generally low season for this industry. There were times when I was not given tasks by my supervisors, however by going around and asking people I could always make sure that I had things to do. I also took part in working towards opena-ended and broader projects to fill in time gaps.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of autonomy at work, which was great as I could learn a lot from figuring out solutions for problems on my own and then presenting them to my supervisors. Since I was an intern my work was always reviewed, therefore my work was never handed to a client before being made sure it is correct.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained a lot of great skills while doing my internship with the firm. I worked with a range of software and technical tools (Microsoft SQL, SurveyCTO, Qlik Sense etc.), got familiar with a lot of business vocab and also came to understand more about working and communicating more efficiently. My technical skills will definitely help me in my studies and work later on as well as the insights I had into work and office culture.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was great, colleagues were always really social and welcoming. This contributed not only a generally pleasant environment to work in and to great conversations but also to a lot of exchange of knowledge which I believe was for the benefit of the expertise of all colleagues.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I believe it was well organized. The trainings we received at the start mostly proved useful in performing our tasks efficiently later during the internship. I was generally looked after and given exercises, and with a bit of asking around I could always make sure that I had sufficient amounts of work to do.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I feel like the company invested a lot into me. Not just in terms of trainings, but also in terms of attention and energy from the employees. Everyone was ready to have a chat or walk me through their work so I could have a good insight on what each person is doing in the company. Having a work shadowing day with a partner or a director for every intern is a great idea.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are great. The tech line of the company, which I worked in, currently seems to be expanding, therefore I imagine there will be a number of openings in the next years. Career progression opportunities are great, and due to the loads of trainings and diverse work there are a lot of skills to be mastered by working at the firm.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living seemed to be affordable in Leeds. Obviously when going out on nights out (especially in the centre) one could end up spending a lot in bars/ clubs. However, when it came to paying the rent or to buying food and every day necessities it seemed normal. Someone working as a well-payed professional can definitely afford to live well here.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It seemed like there are many opportunities, since we were only here for a short period many of these were not available for. Yet we still had events such as a games night or a sports day during this shorter period, it did seem like the company is putting effort into providing social opportunities for employees.
