Intern Review

Experience was fantastic. Deal flow was evidently strong and there were plenty of interesting projects to work on. People were willing to help and provide guidance when necessary, while setting a high standard at the same time.

Tasks given increased in complexity as the weeks went on and colleagues were willing to listen to your inputs. Autonomy over certain tasks was also given and I often felt part of the team instead of being just an intern.

Everyone in the team was always willing to provide guidance when needed - something that Rothschild values.

Sustainably busy. Tasks were allocated mainly through the staffer, who had an idea of intern capacities but would always double check to prevent schedule clashes. At the same time, there was time to properly digest the big picture of the task at hand and nights did not go on for unreasonable hours.

Slides that I produced and excel calculations that I computed were often used in materials that eventually went to clients. Rothschild recognises the importance of giving interns autonomy, so as to properly assess their potential performance as a full time analyst.

Hard skills including excel, powerpoint, research and presentation skills will definitely help in my degree in Economics. An exposure to valuations and business models will also help in my personal investment portfolio. Soft skills, such as time management and communication will also be vital in any work environment in the future.

One that was bustling with people working together, yet who were always happy to take time off to clarify any queries or have a chat. It was also a collegiate environment, with senior people often coming to speak to analysts about certain projects.

Internship was very well organised. There was a very clear structure set up from the outset with the aim of maximising our opportunities for learning within the 10 weeks. There was also time set aside to learn about other teams across the firm, which I found particularly useful.

One week of training was scheduled just to give all interns a basic foundation, to prepare us for the work expected. During the internship itself, the team also specially conducted various valuation exercises to improve our technical skills.

People at the firm often stay for over 10 years, demonstrating the appeal of long term prospects at the firm.

Various social events were valued and were organised throughout the internship. These included those held by the team, HR as well as by the intern class.

Did not live in the area. Food and drinks were priced at around the norm in London.

Plenty of bars in the vicinity and clubs were not too far away as well.

Rothschild emphasises a work-life balance and there was plenty of opportunity to get involved in activities outside of work, whether it was organised by the firm or in my personal life. Overall, there was an internal respect for weekends.
