The Role
I really enjoyed my Tesco Internship - the atmosphere here is incredibly friendly and my team were very welcoming when I first arrived. Everyone was happy to help and I managed to meet a huge amount of people at every level and in many areas of the business who would make time in their busy schedule to spend time with me and tell me about their roles.
I felt much more valued than I thought I would be during an internship - a lot of the work I did had a direct impact on the business and I was given significant tasks and research projects, rather than simply given things to do to fill up my time
My manager was amazing - despite being a work level 3 (relatively high up in the business) she made sure to catch up with me regularly and treated me as a valued colleague - the other girls in my team were also always willing to help and treated me in much the same way
This was the one downside of my internship - I found myself often sitting at my desk having completed all the tasks I had been given. However, most of the time I managed to either fill the time by arranging meetings with people, or by asking around and working with people who needed assistance.
Within the tasks I was given, I had quite a lot of responsibility - for example, I was sent on store visits to explore how other companies marketed their general merchandise ranges, and then asked to present this back to my team - nobody else was given this task, meaning that my findings would have a significant impact on future outcomes.
I have not yet gone back to uni, however I am confident that the skills I have acquired during the internship will be very useful in future jobs. Most of all, this summer has given me an insight into what it is actually like to work for a big company, resulting in me feeling a lot more equipped to enter the working world.
The Company
The atmosphere was great - everyone was incredibly friendly and made an effort to get to know me as a person rather than just as a colleague. I never had to worry about/having lunch alone/not having anyone to talk to at social events, as everyone clearly wanted us to feel welcome and included
Very well organised - the induction day was very helpful and a great ice breaker, and throughout the placement we constantly had access to members of the HR team, as well as having a 'sponsor' within our areas who would check in on us various times during our time at the company
A lot of training was made available to us in the form of masterclasses (excel, networking, presentations etc.). Personally, I also developed a lot as a person just by being in a work environment, as well as through the development of the skills required in a marketing role that I would not necessarily use at university

very appealing - at the end of the internship, people are told whether or not they will be offered a graduate job. In marketing, this placement is 2 years long and includes 3 8-month periods, each of which is carried out within a different area of marketing, meaning that grads get a really good overview of a variety of aspects - currently not sure if I have gotten a job as they only let you know a little while after the placement is over!
