    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship at MUFG. The work was varied, interesting and representative of the day to day workflow. Colleagues were open to any questions asked and more than willing to sit down and talk me through anything, something I think was true for the other interns as well.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were willing to take the time to explain work to you and answer any questions you may have. The senior manager initiative (meeting 10 senior managers) meant this was true in all levels of the business, and we were able to approach anyone below the CEO level for a meeting.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Supervisors were very supportive and again answered any questions you had. After work was completed they would also sit down with you to pass on honest and constructive feedback, both on where you could improve and what you did well.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We were kept busy throughout the day, but not to the extent that you could not meet senior colleagues during the day to get a better sense of the organisation. At no point did I run out of things to do which kept the job interesting.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We were given real meaningful work, primarily for internal purposes. This was useful in informing discussions on; on boarding clients as well as for internal meetings with senior management to inform the application process.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt will primarily be useful in my future career. The training week at the beginning gave me a good understanding of the bank and how financial markets work. This knowledge was built on during the internship whether analysing financials or working on excel. We were also taken to Bloomberg for a training session which was particularly useful in familiarising myself with the system.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very welcoming.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The programme started smoothly and continued on in this way. We were put in touch with our respective teams easily allowing us to prepare to join the desks, and slot into our roles quickly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a week and a half of training comprising an introduction to financial markets, the bank, credit analysis and company accounts, as well as a Bloomberg session. This was very useful over the course of the internship and help me hit the ground running. While individuals were always willing to sit down and teach you.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing with MUFG. The culture and people working at MUFG is very open and lends itself well to a graduate just starting their career, given the level of time they invest in you as a new hire. Enabling you to learn skills that will help wherever your career takes you.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene amongst both my fellow interns and colleagues. Within the interns we made sure to meet up on a regular basis while desks would go on social events on a fairly regular basis. Allowing the interns to get to know our colleagues beyond work and start to build up our personal networks.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a fair few opportunities advertised within the firm, primarily to do with CSR events. There are also sports teams you can get involved in.
